So it’s getting a bit colder, the leaves are falling and it’s raining. It’s autumn and it’s beautiful. But the most important thing this kind of year is to make sure to keep warm and dry to avoid getting sick. And the most important thing to do that is some nice boots. So I went today and bought boots. Nice boots. Maitreya Gold boots. Maitreya Gold Shearling Boots. In black. And I love them. A Pretend Zebra (Shoe Fair # 12)

So this outfit is really a mix-up of all kinds of stuff – we have sport socks, nice shoes, girly skirt, lovely top and lacy shawl as well as a pretty necklace. I call this outfit The Zebra Outfit and the name was inspired by a top that I tried to get to work with the skirt but finally, I dropped that idea, added this top instead, the shawl again (really love that shawl) and a new necklace from Donna Flora – really coming around about Donna Flora jewelry. This necklace is more simple than many Donna Flora necklaces, but lovely.

And the shoes are amazing Knew I wanted them as soon as I saw them. And I’ve gotten several compliments on them – they truly are great! And Shoe Fair is open still so hurry over and get these – or some other shoes. Just go buy shoes!

Inspiration (Shoe Fair # 7)

Inspiration can come from everywhere. Yesterday, while chatting with my designer-friend Falesyia, she commented on how she had just seen some strawberry and grape face tattoos/makeups and that had given her the idea for a new design. Today, I stumbled upon RL fashion blogger Keiko Lynn and this post gave me the idea for the outfit I’m wearing.

Luckily enough, today I also decided to visit Homespun, because I’ve heard people talk about Homespun’s nice dresses. Normally, this dress wouldn’t be me but paired with these shoes I got at Shoe Fair and my amazing leather jacket from Emery, this dress was perfect. (Note: Homespun is where Tiny Bird used to be so if you still have some LMs for Tiny Bird, they now work for Homespun.)

See, the thing is, I often see bloggers say they only blog things they love, even though they receive review items from everywhere. But I sometimes find that if you step out of your box, you can create an amazing outfit around something you don’t love on it’s own but which works in an ensemble. So I might blog something I don’t love on it’s own if it works in the whole, I’m going for – and that’s why I often use pieces of outfits and not entire outfits and then mix it all up. That said, of course I’m not going to blog something I hate – but I do try to see the possibilities in things.

So – since we’re still in Shoe Fair frenzy, I thought I would comment on the shoes. The shoes are from Bottle Bird, a new to me store. I loved these shoes in the fair but they don’t come across as quite as amazing after I’ve put them on. Maybe it was just me expecting something a bit different or I’m remembering wrong since I can’t quite put my finger on what it is. And I still like them, it’s just not total all out love – but they work for the outfit. Maybe I’m just put a bit off by the language used in the NC that came with them:

They have been designed to fit a size 0 foot and only come with alpha masks to hide the foot. We don’t use Invisi-prims because we don’t like them. If you are using a legacy viewer that doesn’t support alpha layers don’t buy them or suck it up and download a viewer that supports alpha layers.

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me being too iffy or something. It just annoyed me a bit.

I also bought a pair of combat boots from Bottle Bird – I’ll feature them in a later post.

What I’m wearing:

  • Dress: Party Dress (Birds & Berries) – Posy Trudeau for Homespun
  • Jacket: Doly Rocket Jacket – sunami Beck for Emery
  • Stockings: Loose socks – plain dirty (blue) – flexagons Villota for +mocha+ (Available at Culture Shock)
  • Shoes: Fritillari – Filthy Adored for Bottle Bird (Available at  Shoe Fair)
  • Necklace: Wabi-sabi Necklace – Zoe Duvall for Geisha Dreams (From the Pacific Relief Fundraiser)
  • Makeup: LesMakeups_Lashes – monica Outlander for Miamai
  • Hair: Shannon (cranberry) – Truth Hawks for Truth Hair
  • Eyes: ‘Sunrise’ Eyes (Deep blue) – Ikon Innovia for FASHISM
  • Skin: Emma (fair, 06 Slate – copper brows – freckles)) – Tuli Asturias for Tuli
  • Shape: Bodyshape 1 (Avie) – Emilia Redgrave for REDGRAVE (modified by me)

I want to finish with a bit about the necklace. I bought it at the Pacific Relief Fundraiser earlier this year and I haven’t worn it before. I liked it because the straight lines of this together with the leather jacket gave a bit more edge to the softness of the flowery skirt and the soft hair do. The necklace came with this notecard explaining the meaning of wabi-sabi and it’s very interesting:

Wabi-sabi Necklace

Inspired by the Japanese philosophy or aesthetic of wabi-sabi, this necklace was created by one of the GD team, Zoe Duvall. Drops of molten silver suspended on red chords. An elegant and simple statement.

“Wabi-sabi is the most conspicuous and characteristic feature of traditional Japanese beauty and it occupies roughly the same position in the Japanese pantheon of aesthetic values as do the Greek ideals of beauty and perfection in the West.”

[1] “if an object or expression can bring about, within us, a sense of serene melancholy and a spiritual longing, then that object could be said to be wabi-sabi.”

[2] “[Wabi-sabi] nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.”

So the look of this necklace still gives the extra dimension to the visual part of the outfit that I was looking for and the notecard gives a spiritual and intellectual dimension and I’m really happy that Geisha Dreams added this information. I love to shop and learn!

Hair (demo) addict (and shoe fair! #1)

So. I can’t remember if I’ve said it before but I’m a hair addict – or more correctly, I’m a hair demo addict. So yesterday, I went to two hair stores … and picked up 50 demos .. This hair from  Amacci is what I ended up buying (and then I saved a ton of the demos for later shopping occasions. I’m not going to tell you how many hair demos I have saved in my inventory. Some secrets are to embarrassing to reveal!)

But this hair … wow – it’s so amazing! I even changed my profile pic in world to show it as well. (Well, I had to change my profile pic since SL made my old profile and pic disappear but I’ve been looking for the right look for my profile and this turned out to be it.)

And then there’s the jacket … the coolest leather jacket! Now, I don’t wear leather jackets in RL and try to wear as little leather (and no fur!) as possible. But in SL – well, you’re not hurting anyone by wearing a leather jacket – and this one is awsome.

Added to this a couple of pieces from one of my favorite stores – Fishy Strawberry – and a cool necklace and some great pumps, and I am so good to go! Oh man, I love this hair!

What I’m wearing:

  • Bodysuit: L’Opera Bodysuit (Blush) – Fae Eriksen for Fishy Strawberry
  • Skirt: Peyote Mini (Wash A) – Fae Eriksen for Fishy Strawberry (From Culture Shock)
  • Leggings: Swan Lake Black Leggings – Fae Eriksen for Fishy Strawberry
  • Jacket: Doly Rocket Jacket – sunami Beck for Emery
  • Necklace: Dicelace (brown) –  beanster Potato for Ducknipple F(From Culture Shock)
  • Shoes: Neyya (toe-cap white) – Onyx LeShelle for Maitreya
  • Hair:  Rhoda (Warm Red) – Carina Larsen for Amacci
  • Hairbase: Amacci Hairbase Tattoo (Warm Red) – Carina Larsen for Amacci
  • Sunglasses: Gold sunglasses – The Fashion Garret (Exclusive Item – Not available any more as far as I know)
  • Makeup:  Make-up Layer 08 – aida Ewing for Glam Affair
  • Eyes: ‘Sunrise’ Eyes (Deep blue) – Ikon Innovia for FASHISM
  • Skin: Emma (fair, 06 Slate – copper brows – freckles)) – Tuli Asturias for Tuli

So the 2011 Shoe Fair is just around the corner – and I’ve been lucky enough to have been chosen as one of 20 bloggers to get a sneak preview! We are allowed to enter the sim tomorrow, the 13th, and I can’t wait! I so need shoes (well, who doesn’t?) and the teasers for the Shoe Fair has shown some amazing details so I’m just so excited. I can’t wait to buy a ton of shoes!! So stay tuned! Sometime tomorrow, I’ll show some previews from the fair!

Here are some info from the official blog:

The Fashion Military

One of the things I love most in Second Life is taking bits and pieces and putting them together to create an outfit. Sometimes, it’s individual pieces – sometimes pieces from an outfit. This is put together by pieces bought at various times with no specific look in mind – but suddenly it all came together.

I like standing out a bit – not looking like everybody else. Although I would like to add something to my avatar to make her unique, for now I’m settling for creating looks that are just me. Hopefully, my individual style will set me apart and give me the uniqueness I’m after – without adding antlers, horns, ears … all things, that somehow doesn’t feel completely right for or true to me.

What I’m wearing:

  • Dress: Madame Eiffel Dress (Pink) – Archan Allen for Bounce
  • Jacket: Riot Military Jacket (Purple) – Naith Smit for NSD
  • Hat: The Soldier on Big Maneuvers – The Girl with a Gun (Faina Cortes) for La Malvada Mujer
  • Boots: Curvaceous Boot (Pink) – Gospel Voom for Gos
  • Fishnets: Fishnet Tights (Purple) – Annyka Bekkers for Blowpop
  • Necklace: Groovy Peace Necklace (Multi) – Abraxxa Anatine for EarthStones
  • Sunglasses: Sunglasses Aviator (Rosy) – sunami Beck for Emery
